Does it fit? Anyone done it?
If someone has one to donate I will try it out and post the details.

Thanks

I can say not with the side shields on it won't fit. Without a sideshield then it would fit with a longer belt and a different brackets to hold it. But at that point-mount a normal auto alternator on and get more then the 45 amps to play with. Still giving you issues then? Seen one person who made a rear alt direct drive with a shaft off the output of the pump and dropped down with a timing belt then a drive connection for the alternator.

Does it run into something on the block or the muffler that it needs different brackets?

Dont need more than 45 amps, no way I'm doing a cab on that thing, did that for a day and it came back off.

I believe the muffler is in the way. I bought a cozy cab to put on my 332, Loud!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't on very long. I like the Diesel. To much noise for the cab. I am in the process of refurbishing the cab. I have a 2 322's I can put it on one of them. A lot quieter.

Wasn't saying to do it for the cab-but for easier access to parts with a standard auto alt. The current alt is just behind the muffler. Can't remember with your turbo what you have left on there so one might fit if you put make your own manifold. I think the 455 might have the same alternator as well as the 430. Since you have one already-something to look at.

I know you hate the site I am going to post the link from but I am not going to re-invent the wheel here either.

This thread shows a direct drive alternator from the backend on a 318.

This thread shows a 455 with a 20 amp alt (looks just like our 332 alt) getting upgraded to the 45 amp. The exhaust isn't in the way on the 455.

Lastly-my thread showing my alternator running from my rear hyd tiller PTO.

Yes cabs are loud-that is why I wear hearing protection. Even without the cab something over my ears will always be worn. I just smile a little when I reach over to the wiper switch to brush the melting snow off the windshield when the wind changes direction and blows it back at the cab while it is below zero outside the cab. Too each there own.

Back on topic - those are the only things I can help with the different alternator tips. Sure is strange with the issues you have with the current system not working and all parts replaced. Do you have the ground strap between the engine and frame still and is it in good condition?

My 455 is an early year and has the "430" alternator.

I'm not interested in front, rear, anything other than stock location options.

I would consider the "hot rod mini alternators" vs an actual 430 one as they are similar.

I have a fair amount of room:

Yes the frame ground is good. I have even grounded the voltage regulator straight to the battery and didnt change the situation. I will check the ground from the battery to the engine at the block too, but it cranks over fine.

Looking at that picture you should have enough room then for the larger alternator. I remember holding my fathers 430 alt up to my 332 and it was if I remember just the depth of it near the exhaust.
