I've been working with tracking down and issue with the steering on my 430. I just changed the filter to a new jd brand, and put me Hy gard. I hooked up a gauge to the top of the pump. At idle I'm not getting any pressure. Is this in the right place?
I'n the same port, it will build up to 850 when I hold a lever

Your in the implement port.
The charge pump port is the right side.
Without checking the manuel, it should be around 180 - 200 psi.
If you have implement pressure, usually charge pressure is ok.
Sounds like your steering valve decided for a vacation.

It does build up some pressure as rpm increases. I did find a picture in the service manual that I think has both implement and charge in the left side port. Opposite of what I have

Cant be the same port. 2 different pressures.
Charge pressure port is on the right side, down a little bit.

Are you referring to the relief valves? The two plugs are on top right beside each other. The charge port relief valve is on the side and the implement relieve valve is on top.
