A friend of mine inherited one of these tractors. Doesn't know the full model number. Believes it has a 54" deck and was asking me about servicing the tractor and attaching the mower deck back onto the tractor. He figured it would take an hour to get the mower deck back on and I told him it shouldn't take that long but then he said he was going to sharpen the blades which made the time make sense. My question is are the blades on these mower decks timed? I am used to a 214 where the blades were close and didn't mesh but if on the X-300's the blades do mesh I just wanted to make sure he looked at that before doing the service on the deck and then find out that the blades in fact need to be 'timed'. A service and owners manual would help.

The blades shouldn't be timed. JD did make such a deck at one time for newer model tractors but I don't believe it was used on X series tractors. What is the model number off the deck. With that it would be easy to look up on JD parts. Roger
Kevin,

My manual states that the x3 series tractors had 38, 42C, and 42M two bladed decks, and in both a three blade 48 inch and 54 inch cut deck sizes as well...housings of course are larger in dimension. I don't recall if the three bladed decks were ever offered on the smallest tractor in the series, the x300.

None are timed. I sent you an excerpt with some info about these decks...

I am hoping he will look over the weekend or the next few days and then if he can give me a model number and let me know then I can possibly help. Thanks for the help guys.
Kevin
Kevin the timed deck is called a Freedom 42. That should be on the deck. It has two blades. Not sure what tractors use it. Roger
Thanks guys! I really do appreciate the help and this site!
