Been using the blade all winter but snowbanks are getting too high.
Time to put the blower on.
Blower's in good shape going through a rigorous rebuild a Cpl years ago by a very talented man. (not me)
When I tried to engage the pto, the tractor stalls...
Nothing looks seized...

Any Ideas?

Steve,

It could also be a severely out of adjustment PTO allowing the braking function to not release when the PTO engages...

Again, testing with the blower disconnected is going to help isolate these sorts of things. But here is a test you can do with the blower still installed and connected: observe the fuel shutoff solenoid linkage when you turn on the PTO switch -- if it releases, then definitely you have a safety switch issue somewhere...most likely the seat.

I'll check the seat again but it had been disconnected.
I did notice the solenoid slides open everytime I try to start the pto.
I was thinking of checking pto adjustment too as the old 318 used to give me that problem...

Steve,

If the solenoid for the fuel cutoff moves when you switch on the PTO then it *is* a safety circuit issue, and the clutch air gap adjustment is not a factor. You should restore normal working of the seat switch to make your tractor safe and easier to maintain since we can trouble shoot your symptoms from a known starting point then.

Your profile does not indicate the year model of your 430, but here is the wiring for the PTO interlocks for a later one. A bad 10 amp fuse might also cause your symptom...and none of the dash lamps would work either in that case

Chuck...thanks again for your help, you truly are a wealth of knowledge.
The tractor had the safety switch disengaged when I purchased it.
I believe the tractor is an 83, serial number is not ledgable, but I think I'd checked the engine serial number.

Chuck...you're bang on! not suprising though.

Connection for the bypass was bad, must have done it when I had the fender pan off last!

Going to put the tractor back together and get everyone's driveways cleaned out...

Thanks again!

Steve,

It is good that you are running again! Like most trouble shooting activities -- finding the issue is about 90% of the effort, and fixing the issue is the much smaller part of the work.
