Hi - the auger on my 49 blower attachment for my 322 will just randomly stop spinning/ shut off as I’m blowing snow. So I’ll have to flick the pto off and back on, and it’ll do this sometimes to very 5 or 10 seconds. It’s pretty frustrating. It is NOT the shear pin I know that for sure. Any ideas of what else to check?

I will note that the auger does not spin freely by hand when it’s off, I don’t recall if it’s supposed to or not, but just wanted to point that out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

When the belt is NOT installed (thrower pulley to tractor pto) and under tension, the auger should spin freely by hand.
Not a shear pin issue so things I can think of to check: Correct drive belt? JD 322 / Model 49 = JD v-belt M91270.
Belt on, tensioning arm on thrower fully pushed down all the way? Tractor PTO and PTO switch OK? Seat safety switch OK?

Both actually.
Forgot to add - look at the drive chain, those components and the tension on the drive chain too.
Good clarification. Just the switch. I’ll switch it off then back on. Sometimes it’ll spin for a little while. Sometimes it’ll try to spin then stop immediately. Other times it won’t even spin. It’s really sporadic……

anything to look at specifically on the chain?

Thanks Bo2009 —- believe I have the correct belt. What is the tensioning arm on the thrower you mention needs to be pushed down all the way?

pto’s seem ok. Seat safety switch seems to be fine.

With the chain side I would look at keyways and hub locking screws. If you have loose locking screws or a broken key in a keyway, there might be enough pressure from them to grab for a bit, and then they slip, then they grab again, etc, etc. I've seen it happen in both circumstances.

AR,
Once the belt is in place and snug, the bracket, arm is to be pushed down and fully snapped into place per se for proper tension.
That can take some effort and have to be careful. I used a piece of wood for extra reach and to protect my fingers.

If the pto is going its the gear box I had to have a guy weld teeth back on my gears since I wasn't paying 400+ for two gears
