Did John Deere make a mulching kit for the 50" High lift deck? I have found mulching blades but no kit or any kind of block off plate. Why would Deere offer mulching blades if there was never a kit for it? If not has anyone ever made there own?

You talking about the 50in deck like the 318's came out with Joe? If so Mother Deere never did make a "kit" for that deck that I am aware of. But I have used hardware cloth over the opening on mine a few and it did help. Wasn't the best but it did help some..............

Deere never made mulching blades either.
If you found some like Gator or Predator those are not made by Deere.
They offered a standard and medium lift blade but no high lift/mulching blades.
Like Gary said,a mulching kit was never made for the 50 deck either.I have seen guys make the block plate themselves and use Gator/Predator blades.
I have not done it myself so I can't say how well it worked.

Joe,
Here are a couple photos of my my homemade mulching plate.
It does a pretty good job but does leave minor windrowing.
Second trip over and the windrows are gone.
I also use Gator blades.

I have a mulch kit on my 46 inch deck that was available from Deere when I bought my 1992 model 322 tractor used in 1995 or 1996... Here is what info I have on it. I am sure it would not fit a 50 inch deck, but you might use the configuration as a starting point to make your own...

The installation instructions are way too large to post here, so I will mail them to you.
