I have been looking for a broom for my 318 as soon as I found out they even made one. I have not had many responses at all. I never actually seen one either. I found one picture in the gallery and I appears to have a quick hitch hook up. I saw another picture somewhere online that had different mounting. Both said they fit 318. Does anyone out there have one of these? Could of they made both mounting styles like the 54 blade? I also know the "51 broom" is what almost every John Deere broom is called is the past 20 years. If anyone has any pictures of the mounting or have one please inform me on anything I should know. A lot of responses to my wanted ad are for the f or x series, also called 51. And some people don't know what they fit and I don't either by looking at pictures. Thanks again.

I have one of the quick hitch setups with a 51" broom on my 318, it works good. If you find a quick hitch for a 318 you will also need the pto kit for the quick hitch. It should come with a aluminum pulley and small pto shaft that fits in the mule drive. The aluminum pulley bolts to the front pto on the 318 to run the lower pto shaft that sits in the mule drive. Both the 51" and 52" broom should work on the quick hitch setup.

Dan,

Your photo displayed is my 322 and 51 broom. I have the Quik-hitch set up Neil describes. It has the lift and angle cylinders that are also used on my 54" blade. This broom works on the 425,445,455 and X-series tractors with the Quik-hitch setup and different PTO drive units.

I use this on my concrete drive for light snow removal and on the lawn in the Spring as a de-thatcher. Works like a charm on both task.

Thanks Paul. I was thinking of the same uses. And I just think it's really cool. So really I'm looking for a 51 broom, quick hitch with lift and power angle and PTO drive. And a 54 blade really. Unless anyone can confirm my assumption that maybe the earlier brooms had a direct mount and no quick hitch? Thanks guys.

I personally like the 51 Broom setup over the Sweepster model just for storage purposes. I can unlatch the broom from the quik-hitch, uncouple the front PTO and remove the quik-hitch itself from the tractor in just a few minutes. Then store it in a 56" X 30" area against the wall. Where as the Sweepster style broom takes up a heck of a lot of area to store and is all one heavy unit that I had to man handle myself to mount/unmount. (I HAVE owned them both and sold the Sweepster) Now, with that being said, I can't say one way or the other if either one out performed the other one. Both units did what I wanted accomplished with no problems.

To each their own......

I actually have a Sweepster broom model 30 I bought at an auction. This model was made for the Allis and Chalmers and missing some mounting. For the price I was going to make it work. But I'm really just a John Deere guy and don't want anything but John Deere attached to my John Deere.

I have spent some more time looking more 51 broom pics and info. Very hard to find pics. There's got to be someone out there with this broom? Are they all quick hitch style? If anyone has one please speak up. I'm struggling for info. Thanks

I believe they are all quik-hitch mounted with different lengths used on the drive shaft to the different models of tractors. What angle of photo would you like to see? I can go out and take a few of my set up if you like.

Appreciate that Paul. Any pictures of the mounting would be extremely helpful. There are a few brooms for sale out there that no one knows what they fit. And I have never seen the back of a broom either. Just trying a gather as much info as I can. So when the next one pops up online or auction I can for sure just look at it and know it will fit mine. Thanks again.

Dan I have a powered broom that I bought for my 318. It is a sweepster and it came off a 317. The plastic hood needs work or replaced. The chains need to be freed up or replaced. I bought new brushes for the sweepster. It does fit on the 318 front end. I believe it is the same as Bonebascetta has. I am selling because I bought a 445 and I have a powered broom for it and no use for the sweepster anymore. I would sell it for what I have in it. Shoot me an email if you are interested.

Hey Neil,

You mentioned here that with the proper quick hitch and front PTO that a 51 and 52 broom will work on a 300 series. I'm interested in this configuration. Are the hookups the same for the 52 and 51?

Thanks,

Andy
