no, but you might as well. no good can come from it staying under there, and removal doesn't require tools

If the question is whether you can leave your mower deck or tiller on and have it be functional with a 54 blade the answer is yes. I had my 54 blade on my 140 with the deck this summer so I could grade my driveway and mow the ditches. You could do the same with the hydraulic tiller on the 318. I found it to not really be the ideal setup but it did work.

The one problem you might run into is if the knob that is used for the adjustment of the belt isn't the original it might stick out to far for the blade to hook up. On my 318 I had a after market knob and it would hit the inside of the bracket for the plow. I found a smaller knob and it fixed my problem.............Gary
