60 connecting rod

got the kit and rebuilt engine.tore down tactor and repaint. pulled apart gearbox and cleaned,new bar tires on back and snowblower tires on front.
I GOT THIS 60 WITH A BAD ROD
I got it all together and it would not start. sheared key on flywheel.
still no start
check spark and have good spark, so i check timming and its right on
must be bad carb right
change carb with known good one still no start even spraying either in it no fire

well so i pulled out the engine tear it all apart again and its all perfect
put engine back together and reinstall
popped over then nothing

pull out engine and put a vh70 in that i just got from a fellow member
thst one wont run either
pull off the black wire going to the rectifier block and it fired right up
IT FIRED RIGHT UP!!!!!!

damm do I feel stupid
