Hi guys how should my solenoid be wired on my 69 140 ? I have the + lead from my battery as well as a small red wire going to my amp meter and on the other big post I only have my starter wire ! And for some reason my voltage regulator is getting hot without the tractor running ? Please help

I think I've traced it to voltage regulator wiring but I don't understand ? I'm using a 14hp kohler 15amp stator from a 74 140 so I switched the voltage regulator to the 15 amp from the 74 but if I unplug it it will crank over like normal but once I plug it in it won't crank and gets warm !
