Starters are still available for these. However, most of the John Deere 70 model VH-70 engines had a hub on the top of the flywheel that you could use to rope/pull start the engine.
tried that and it spins free but no fire. does the clutch need to be held in while pull strating? also will a 32a blower fit on this?this is my 2nd 70 but the other one has a newer type engine installed by PO but runs great.
Assuming the safety interlocks are still in use the transaxle needs to be in neutral and the PTO lever needs to be disengaged in order to activate the starter motor. Clutch pedal is not on an interlock. The safety interlocks only come into play for use with an electric starter. To pull start just be sure the ignition switch is in the run position and both the PTO and transaxle are disengaged. As far as I know the model 32 and 32A snow throwers were about the same but I believe there was a modification kit for mounting a model 32 on a 100 lawn tractor.
