Ron, I may have bought the last OEM JD AM31189 in the country from a Deere dealer. My local Deere dealer used the National Deere parts search which showed 3 dealers in the country having one in stock. They gave me phone numbers to said dealers and I called. The first 2 confirmed that they did not have one. The 3rd dealer confirmed that they had 1 on hand. I bought it over the phone and they have sent it to me.
I checked Hapco and they are out of stock on repops. Like tmac said, search the web and you may find one somewhere.

The cap that came with the tractor is just a plain cheap cap from something else, i.e. no gauge, hence no sending unit. The tank is a stock 140 tank so the opening is 1.5" in Dia. and the inside of the tank from top to bottom is 6".
I always thought that one of JD's strong points was parts availability, even for older models. Now I'm beginning to question that if I still can't buy a lossy gas cap for a garden tractor that they made thousands of.

Hi I see a lot on-line that are 9" long and 2" diameter of the cap. This wont work. The john deere parts catalog says it would have to be ordered for about $39.00, but after reading earlier comments, that's if the main parts depot has them. I know my dealer does not.
Keep searching

Is the tank deeper than a RF tank?

Apparently the tanks are the same depth, they use the same gauge cap (AM31189), although I’m not seeing any on eBay where I’ve gotten my last 3.
