Just picked up a 332 and all the numbers show except the first number which would tell me the year. Is there any other way to find this info out?? I know it isnt a 4 because Mike Duwe (sp) on here owns that one. The number is
M00332X?24519, ? mark being the number I can't tell what it is. Any info would be appreciated.

There were some suddle changes over the years, if you post a few pictures we might be able to pinpoint it.

One big change was the hydro linkage revisions.

My 332 doesnt need the brake depressed to start, the later 318's do, dont know about the 332's. And of course anything could have been bypassed over the years.

I think the later 318's have a red stop sign on the dash for the hydro lever, again, could come off, but might be an indicator.

And there is the powercoating vs paint.

First year (87) doesn't have powder coating. I think from my reading some 88's didn't either but around mid year they started powder coating. Agree with Mike. Pictures of the dash, paint, hydro linkage would help some. A decal maker can remake your tag if that is all you need. JD will also make you a new one based off your engine SN which is a real tag - not a sticker but it isn't OEM looking.

Brian: WFM member Michael Nelson as able to cross reference my tractor serial number from the engine serial number as my 332 came without a s/n tag altogether. Give him a shout. I believe he works at a JD dealer.

Thanks Gary, my 332 needs the brake depressed to start. I have all the info on the engine.

Engine numbers:
CH3022D015931
Mod: 3TN66UJ

And like I said the Tractor numbers that I can read are:
M00332X?24519

Thanks guys

If you have to push the brake in to start then it isn't an 87. It was likely powder coat from factory.

Brian,

The parking brake switch was fitted to tractors with SN 596006 and above...

So it has to be at least a 1989 or later tractor.

As stated above, there are many running changes shown in the PC2149 that can help you narrow it down -- but cross referencing it with the engine number is your best bet.

OOPS, the above chart is for the 322 tractors -- 332 are similar start numbers in each year.

And on 332 tractors, the brake switch started with SN 596723...

Sorry for the confusion...

Thanks for the info Chuck, hopefully someone who is a dealer or can help cross reference the engine numbers will chime in. I tried doing some searches last night on the engine numbers but only got more confused. Thanks again guys.

Brian,
I tried running some number combinations to see what I could come up with. Next step is to call Deere I'll try this week. As they can do it off the engine serial number. Sometimes though it takes more then one try to them too.

Spend some time on jdparts.com looking at the different hydro linkage setups and other small changes, they are listed by serial number breaks, should help pinpoint what you have.
