I'm trying to lift my engine out using a clevis fork, but for the life of me can't find one. I've been looking at eye bolts too, but I can't seem to find one that fits the thread. What is the bolt size on the Kohler?

Thanks all!

You'll never get the engine to "balance" on your lifting hoist that way. The head bolt holes are all around the outer edge of the cylinder, far from the center of mass.

I'd use a nylon strap or rope wrapped under the straight end of the crankshaft on the output end and between the blower housing and oil pan on the other end, or the diecast v-belt pulley machined into the hub for the grass screen.

Make the rope/strap loose enough so you can raise the rope/strap between the frt & back of the engine on both sides. When you hook both ropes/straps from the sides of the engine on the hook of your hoist, they support the engine from tipping.

OR... get a young strong guy, neighbor, son, whoever, and "supervise" him muscling the engine out by hand. It's only 150+/-pounds.

Having issues which way? Clevis on a bolt? Or with a sling or rope?

I use a sling or rope all the time, engine comes up and out nice and level.

With a clevis fork or eyebolt, you'd need at least two to balance the engine, and three or four would be better.

When I pull an engine, I leave the starter/generator, carb, gas tank, PTO clutch, etc all attached. I then remove the necessary items to attach the engine to my engine stand. In the case of a single cyl K-series Kohler, the starter/generator and it's bracket.

Twenty years ago I did them all by muscling them out by hand.
