New member of the 322 club! I Bought my first 322 on Tuesday as a Christmas present to myself! I had a chance to buy one 5 years ago, but I missed out on that deal. I have always wanted a 322. This will be my first Yanmar powered tractor, and it runs a lot different compared to the 318s I'm used to running. This one is going to need some work on the cosmetics and is missing the side panels and screens for the pedestal panels and taillights, but it runs strong and drives great which is what I was looking for. It has 1100 hours on the meter. My goal for this 322 right now is to change all the fluids and clean it up. This one did sit for a few years and could use good clean up. I will be asking for some help along the way as I work on it. I have a feeling I am going to love this thing and the 318s won't be used as much anymore!

I bought a 322 after having 4 318's. I just love the sound of the engine. It just purrs. Side panels will be harder to find than an honest politician.

Jimmy,

Congrats on the 322 score! It is my favorite tractor in the vintage 300 line-up and like George says it is smooth and quiet compared to
the Onan-powered 318 tractors.

Be sure to use the enter key between and before each photo to keep the page from running wide, the pictures will stack that way.

I have been using the return key/enter key in my text here to keep this post in the left side of the wide layout in this thread until it gets edited.

Here is a picture of my two 322 tractors from a while ago -- only kept the 1992 on the right after we moved to a smaller place...

George, they really do purr, the governor is so much faster than on my Onans. Thanks Chuck, my favorite 300 series tractor is the 318, I think that is about to change though! Also, it since this 322 I picked up has been sitting, it seems these Yanmars do not like stale gas? It was running great today, but the exhaust smells like bad gas and it stumbles on acceleration of the throttle. The gas in the tank smells really stale.

Jimmy,

As with most small engine carburetors, letting gas set in them will cause issues -- clean it up and get rid of that stale gas.

There is no accelerator pump on this engine, so rapid changes in throttle settings will cause a stumble. Just move the lever slowly.

Yep, I'm going to be getting rid of the stale gas. I will try moving the lever slower next time, I was moving it way too fast which was most likely why it was stumbling. Also, thank you very much Chuck for emailing me the technical manuals, I really appreciate it.

Welcome to the 322 club Jimmy.
I have 2.The 90 is the one on the right and the 92 is on the left.
When I picked up the 92 last spring it had sat for 3-4 years as well.
It developed electrical gremlins as well as hydrostat leaks.
I had it going and put a few hours on it then it would not start.Like you I dumped the old fuel and replaced the filter but still ran into fuel issues this winter.
If I were you I would look into replacing the fuel hoses as well as the pick up tube and grommet in the tank. That way you will ensure all of the old rotten fuel is out of it.
With the 90 model I added a 2 speed locking rear differential as well as an H3 valve to it.That is the machine I run my Buford Bucket on and it handles it just fine.
These are my favorite as well.I think you will enjoy it.
Same power as the 318 and more so than the 332.
Enjoy.

Thanks AJ! I remember seeing your thread on when you got the 92 model on GreenTractorTalk. Also, did you repaint the 90 model? It looks great. I will be replacing the pickup in the tank, I hope my dealer has the whole pickup assembly. Also I am going to be changing the hydro and engine oils. What oil are you guys running in your 322s for the winter? Would you recommend running synthetic oil?

I did a rattle can job on it 3 or so years ago.
It still looks good today.

Jimmy,
Once you get the bugs worked out,you will like your new 322.I sure like how clean my 322s run compared to an Onan powered tractor.I also have 2 322s,and like AJ, one has a 2 speed locking rear differential as well as H3. Welcome to the club!

Well, I haven't posted in this thread in a while, but now that school has ended I have started working on the 322. I am going to be doing a complete tuneup on this machine, but first I needed to power wash it. Let me just say, that I have never seen a 300 series tractor with more dirt, grease, and grime than this 322. Once I removed the fender pan and fuel tank, the amount of dirt on this thing was unbelievable! The transmission must have been running really hot with this thick layer of insulation. The belly screen was full of debris. After, I power washed all the dirt and grime off the frame and transmission this machine had to of been pounds lighter. It is said to see how someone neglects one of these amazing top of the line 300 series tractors. Here are some pictures I took while powerwashing it.

Jimmy, It looks like you are off to a good start! The last 322 that I bought looked like that under the belly pan... plus one dried out dead squirrel. Yuk!

Keep up the good work!

Yep! Wow a dead squirrel in your 322 belly pan? I was expecting some sort of dead animal or creature to come out of this one considering the amount of debris inside. I don't know if you saw the last picture in my first post, but is a yellow hydro filter a really old one? I haven't seen a yellow one before so it must be old.

Hey Jimmy,
Yes, Yellow filters are the old ones.
