I can not speak for your LX176, but on my old 111 it wasn't too bad. The operators manual said, "see dealer for service." That was certainly not necessary.

I took a comealong and lifted the front of the mower so I could work on it in a normal position. I THEN CHAINED THE TRACTOR AS WELL FOR SAFTEY!!! Comealongs are not rated for overhead lifting or life saftey, both applied in my situation. All it was from there was taking a bunch of pulleys and idlers, the steering, etc off.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Tim,

Welcome to the WFM forum! You will get many more responses in the "late model" forum as that is where lawn tractors such as yours, plus the garden tractors made after 1992, are discussed.

Here are a few excerpts from the manual that should help you be confident you can change this traction belt...

That looks very similar to the setup on my 111!!! Be sure you check your idlers while you are in there. IIRC I had two bad one so I replaced all three or I had one bad and one good so I replaced both. In the end they are only $12 a piece for my 111. Cheap insurance.
