Do these engines require coils with internal resistors? Or not? Or could use external resistor? Thx.

I guess you could wire in a ballast resistor, but I'm not sure why you'd want to, when you can just get a coil with an internal resistor. But yes, you do need a resistor somewhere in there.

Buy one of the proper coils from Kirk, Bosch blue for the single cyl, or his dual coil for the 2-cyl engines. http://www.kirkengines.com/

I'm putting my K321 back together, and the only 12v coil I have sitting around does not have a resistor. I know I could get a correct coil from somewhere online in a few days, but I was hoping to get something cobbled together enough to see how it runs, without having to wait around.

The coil on my CC100 K241 is a plain vanilla "no external resistor" coil. Local NAPA sells them by this spec.
