I'm doing a rebuild and have the head off. In looking close at the long studs that hold the hydraulic pump, there is a crack in it. It doesn't look like any M42218's are available. Any ideas?

I used Grade 8 carriage bolts and cut them to length. I had to order them from Fastenal but pickup at a local branch is free so they weren't that expensive.

You will probably fight the stud to get it out... good luck! Make sure you chase the threads in the block also.

Thanks for the reply. So you have threads from the block through the head and you cut the carriage bolt bed off?

Dorman P/N 675-201 and they were only $1.20 each

I usually buy the longest grade 8 I can cut the shank the length I need and cut my own threads.

I just did this for one of mine. I was able to get the grade 8 bolt right at local Ace Hardware.

Between JD parts and the service manual, I am still missing something here. Is the pump mounting plate sandwiched between fiber washers or is there some kind of spacer that goes in there as well?

I put a regular washer on top of the nut then a fibre washer then I turned down some smaller fibre washers to fit in the plate to keep the plate from moving then another fibre washer on top followed by a regular wager a nut like it shows in the service manual. Bought all parts at hardware store. The real parts are NLA.

thanks Bill. I did find the larger washers and fiber washers from JD, just not the ones that are in the holes of the plate

For those I put a bunch on a bolt and chucked it up in a drill and then ran it along side a belt sander until I got the outside diameter I wanted.

Same here with a drill and bench grinder I just used thick gasket paper

anyone have a picture of everything stacked up?
Is there a spacer between the head and the blower housing/flywheel shroud?

Mike, There is a member over on MTF that did a great job documenting this. It depends on the head you have. I just rebuilt an HH100 that has a flat head so it does not require any spacers, but some of the heads are sloped so they do require spacers.
