I've got the typical cracked seat cover on my 91 318... Seat pan is like new and the foam appears fine except for the area around the cracked corners. Is the seat cover only part TY24334? Does this cover have the embossed logo like the original? I see seats that look similar online, such as replacements for TY15863 or AM103284 but I can't determine which of these has the deere logo and would like to just replace the cover if possible. Thanks!

Mike,
The TY15863 is a perfect copy of the 318 original seat with the embossed deer logo and more threaded holes to match different models.
This seat come without the safety switch and without the deer label on the back.

Some copy of the TY15863 are cheaper without the embossed deer logo.

Has anyone used contact cement like Super 77 to just attach the seat cover to the busted seats, like reupholstering? I hate how baggy some of the covers are, and fabric tight to the seat would look really nice (IMHO).

Hello Mike & Nick
I found out that the Easiest way to Place my new John Deere 318- seat cushion repair Kit, was to spray some 3-M Medium Strength adhesive on the Base and back Portion of the metal Tractor seat Pan. By doing this, it keep's the Heavily Padded seat cushion where it need's to be as one start's Placing the ribbed welting along the Outer edge of the metal seat pan that they supply with these seat cushion Repair Kit's. I did Not use any adhesive Nor glue on the ribbed welting piece it self. The welting is snug enough fitting, that it hold's in Place very well to the metal seat pan edge area when Placing it.I Pulled down the seat cushion until I had the edge of the Pebble grain design of the vinyl cushion right on the metal set pan very edge. The cushion will have some smooth Vinyl material toward's the Outer edge of the seat cushion, where it Transition's into The Pebble grain design of the cushion. I found so long as I Pulled down the cushion Vinyl and followed up with the ribbed welting Keeping the Pebble grain design of the seat cushion it went on smooth and pretty easy, Not Puckering if you go slow ane even with the Vinyl material of the seat cushion.

Once you get the new welting in Place all the way around the seat cushion and metal seat Pan there will be some Excess Vinyl material on the back side of the welting. I simply Cut off that Excess Vinyl using a Carpet Knife holding it Very close to the Inner Portion of the new welting that was Installed. You will More than Likely have to cut off the Excess welting when you bring the Two end's together meeting each other as they are Intended to do being dead center of the front Bottom area of the Tractor's metal seat pan. Once I brought the Two welting end's together, I simply Sniped off the Excess welting with a Pair of Dike's and Placed the Coupler clamp and then squeezed it together Tightly with a Pair of Gas Pliers completing the Job. I Guess that it took me about an Hour to get this Seat cushion repair Kit Installed on my 1983 John Deere 318 But it really Made the Complete Tractor restoration Project Pop, finishing it off with a brand new seat cushion. I Hope this help's, Kurt

I check few price with Keeping it Green:
TY15863 New Seat $89.29 + around $5.00 for the deer logo = $94.29

TY15740 Seat Kit $71.14 + around $15.00 for the adhesive = $86.14

For the price I choose the new seat because the deer logo was free for me :)

15% discount for seat and seat covers until October 31

On Monday I ordered the seat cover TY24334 for $27.00 and also will get 15% off that with my coupon.. Seemed good to me since my seat pan and rear sticker look great still. The cover is probably at my dealer, but I'm out of town at the moment....

Hello Andre
Your John Deere Part's prices must be higher there than in Knoxville, Tennessee. I Paid $65.00 for my seat repair cushion Kit and the can of 3-M medium strength adhesive was less than Five Buck's at Wal-Mart. Placing the new seat cushion can be a bit challenging, but to me it was well worth it to get back an Exact factory Looking seat that was made for and intended to be on my 1983 John Deere 318. Regards, Kurt

Kurt,
For the JD parts, it's not my price, they came from our sponsor Keeping it Green.
I just want to add extra information about another option.
My old seat was broken and I was happy to replace it at good price.
With both options our old jewel look better and like the original.

FYI, I ordered part TY24334 and it is NOT the correct seat cover for the factory seat. It's actually a slip over type with elastic around the edges like you might see in a cheap car seat cover. I can't believe how complicated Deere makes this by not showing accurate pictures of the parts. My dealer showed me a picture of complete seat TY15863 and it does not have the embossed Deere logo. The original seat AM103284 which has the embossed logo and the correct rear decal is available, but it's about $150.... Not what I was wanting to do since my seat pan is so nice.

Mike,

I agree JD makes it somewhat complicated with regard to these seat/cover options. I just purchased a #TY13863 from my local dealer last month at a cost of $89.29 plus tax and I can assure you it does have the embossed JD logo. It does not however, have the decal on the back. The only difference in the seat compared to the stock one is this new seat has a "multiple choice" hole layout on the bottom opposed to the stock dedicated 4-hole layout. The reason I go this route is because the TY15740 cover kit like Kurt bought and installed is now $71.14 before tax at Deere and you have to install it. I've bought a total of four of these seats the past year and a half and consider my time it would take to install a cover only worth more than the $18 or so difference between the cover and the complete seat. It is true the OEM seat AM103284 is priced at $147.22 before tax...........Hope this helps.............Gary

Thanks Gary, shortly after my last post, I figured out the correct part was TY15740 so I ordered it. Since I'm only doing one seat, I don't mind doing the install, but if I had four to do, I would probably make the same choice as you. I think it's about $60 with my coupon.

Thank you Mike, please fill me in on your process to install the grommets when you get to that point. I imagine you will have to use some sort of round knob (maybe end of broomstick?) to push/hold the grommet into the hole in seat pan and then peen the backside hollow end over with something? I'm sure they have appropriate tooling in the factory but always wondered how I would accomplish with just ordinary tools.
