A couple of my mower tractors needed new firewall insulation and I tackled the job on the 316 today.

I used a modified 3 piece no engine removal procedure, only doing the MINIMUM amount of work on this install. I used some small pieces of my older style non-PSA MYLAR faced insulation, so had to use the 3M spray adhesive to attach the foam to the metal firewall Here are some before, during and after photos.

Showing tools I use to shape and cut holes.

I mowed all my lawns early yesterday with the 316 shown above. I was pleased after I was finished that the engine and air cleaner filter housing stayed almost perfectly clean. It really helps the air flow having the firewall foam installed!

Hello John & Other's
I have gotten Two of John Lang's fire wall Insulation Package's and can say, that it is the single Most Important thing that one can do to extend the life span of their Onan. The forward air that one of his Kit's provides by sealing off the engine compartment is unbelievable I would say that it provides at Least 50% More forward air flow. Heat Kills and air cooled engine so his Kit's are cheap Insurance of a Long happy Onan Life span. Regards, Kurt

Hello Bill
I would suggest that you install John Lang's Insulation Kit, as I said in my previous post, it improved the Engine forward air cooling flow at least 50% Possibly 75% on both of the family owned John Deere Tractor's being my restored 1983 John Deere 318 as well as the 1991 John Deere 316 with an Onan P-218 in it that I built & restored early this Spring time for my son in law. A Proven Fact is that Stale Non Moving Engine compartment Heat Eventually Kill's air cooled engines over the long run, therfore John's Kit will ensure qa Long happy engine life no matter what engine you are running it will run much cooler with his kit placed on the firewall.Engine's are Not easy to Pull, rebuild or replace due to their high cost so this Kit will help Much. They are top notch quality and made to fit perfectly. Regards, Kurt

RIP Kurt, thanks for helping spread the word on the importance of the firewall insulation kits.

I should have thanked Kurt more often when he was around here on WFM.
