I got to looking under my 400 this weekend. See attached photo. Prior to my ownership of the tractor, one of the flywheel cap screws (1) must have backed out and eventually hit the hydraulic oil cooler (2). Good thing is, the cooler isn't leaking. Bad thing is, I'm running on three bolts.

I checked and the bolt is actually gone, not broken off. Does anyone know what the bolt part number is?

Thanks,
Bill

You'd be quicker and cheaper just to take out another bolt and take it to a hardware or automotive store. Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like it has 6 "dash's" on the cap which means it's grade 8, if it only has 3, then it's only grade 5. Either way, it won't be anything special except for the grade, just a regular imperial thread bolt.

Bill,

JDParts shows in PC1475 that the bolt is a 3/8 x 1.75 inch long cap screw, but does not list the grade. It also does not specifically state if this bolt is a coarse or a fine thread, so removing one of the other bolts and taking it to the hardware store is a good idea for achieving a match.

My squinting at your photo comes up with three lines and the letters JD on the bolt head, so most likely it is a grade 5...

Bill,

The part number for the bolt is 19H1765 which costs $.88 from you local JD dealer. The thread is UNC2A (Coarse) thread.

George!

Good to see you posting again
Thanks for the additional information -- I was not fully logged onto the JDParts site and that is why the price was not stated in my post above. Maybe that is why I missed the thread type also...

Thanks George. Sure enough, that's the part. I installed it tonight.

I know I could have removed one of the others and gotten one like it at a hardware store, but I wasn't sure if I could even get one of them out and I was hoping my wife could stop by the local JD dealer and pick one up for me (it's right on her way to work).

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

Bill

Now on to getting it back together so I can try out the mower deck.
