I've got a 68 140 h3 and I'm having a hard time finding a 10 amp stator for the k301 engine. I can get one through ope engines but don't wanna spend $500. Anyone know of a source to get one a little cheaper? I've already checked my deere dealer, they couldn't find any.

I was told I had to get a flywheel to upgrade to a 15 amp bc of the magnets in it. I'm not positive on this. It's just what I was told. I saw all the ones on eBay but they were all. 15 amp.

The 15 amp stators don't physically fit. You have to change the flywheel as well, and they don't all work in a 140. You would need a different regulator as well.
Having said that, upgrading to a 15 amp system with readily available, inexpensive parts might be the better way to go. Both my early 140s have had this change.

Josh you need a complete 15 amp system. That would include the stator, flywheel, regulator and wiring harness. It would be best if you could get all of this from one engine so you know all the parts work together. This was the standardized system from about 1970 on K series Kohlers. It would be best if it came from a 10, 12, 14 or 16 HP engine. It could even be from a gear drive 200 series tractor or a 300 series with a single cylinder engine. I would stay with a JD product as I am sure those were all the same. Roger

I have the complete engine out of a 68 140. If I pull the flywheel could I tell the difference between a 10 and 15 amp. This engine was rebuilt a couple of years ago and is going in another 72 112. I won't need the 10 amp stator.
