Pics of the Rod in question. I have only used a 33 tiller and that lift rod is different than this rod.

What is this rod in pics below designed and used for?

Maybe it went to an aftermarket attachment?

This 314 had a rear PTO on it along with this rod where the tiller lift rod normally rests.

I haven't seen one before. Kind of an odd design for a JD and it looks like it was kind of crushed in to fit. Of course you could see that yourself.

Perhaps this the the rough country " the tiller is going to be bouncing up and down a lot " lift rod with slots to allow for free float movements??? I kid but that seems to make a little sense unless it is missing some parts.

The factory lift bar for a 314/317 pictured above has a short 2" slot to allow tiller float. The 140 tiller bar is straighter, but has a similar slot.

Thank you knotyrope. Yeah it is similar but different yours looks modified.

Knotty's looks like the factory bar for a sleeve hitch. Just missing the small threaded clevis at the rear (left) end.
