I have a pretty nice 430. I use it mainly for snow blowing, especially this year. The issue is it came with a really nice stainless exhaust pipe, but it is so loud that it gives me a headache after using for an hour or so, even with wearing ear muffs. Wondering what others have done for mufflers since a replacement from Deere is pretty hard to come by.

Really bad for your hearing. My ears ring constantly from running dirt bikes, sleds, saws ect as a kid. I have a set of Bose noise canceling ear muffs thst I use now. I’d definitely find something that fits on there for now and then decide how much you want to spend on it for later on down the road.

There was a guy on My Tractor Forum that built a muffler for his 322 using the old rusted out one for a pattern. The 322 gasser and the 332/430 use the same muffler from what I know.
Do you have welding skills and a welder? If not I would think that a muffler off a 322 or a 332 would work for you accept the exit pipe may be different.

just a thought.

The 430 uses it’s own muffler- it’s not compatible with any other models unfortunately. There’s one on eBay now for a pretty fair price for what they are.

Yes, each of the Yanmar engines in these Deere tractors (the 322, the 332 and the 430) have a different part number for the muffler and they are not the same assembly. As noted above, the 430 tractor takes a uniquely shaped/bracketed muffler to fit correctly. While the 322 and 332 units might mechanically mount on the opposite engine type -- they have much different exit pipe sizes and likely very different back pressures so their functions are not equivalent.

Exhaust system designs on small engines can be critical for peak performance -- hence all the engineering invested in those systems that are "tuned" for a particular competition/RPM range, etc. I doubt that the Yanmar exhausts are anywhere near that critical, but the fact that the part numbers are unique to each model speaks to some reasoning being in place to choose to have different parts of lower production volumes over a "one size fits all" approach.

I contemplated making a stack.muffler but I really did not want to cut up the side panel more than it already is and I could not find a muffler that I felt looked fitting to me. I ended up ordering the OE muffler off of Ebay. It was tough paying almost new price for used but there is no ETA on a new at this time from Deere. It will be a shame removing the stainless pipe but my ears and my neighbors will appreciate it.

You can find generic mufflers where the specifications are based on inlet dia, outlet dia, inlet position and direction, outlet direction and position, muffler shape and dimensions. Match yours up to find the right body, and then have the local muffler shop make up the connections and brackets. I used to work in a muffler shop so often made up pieces that were NLA from the dealer and aftermarket. Mild or stainless.
I plan to do this on my 430 which will be due a new muffler when it makes its way up to the top of my list

F935 muffler can be used if willing to put a hole in side panel and do some cutting and welding of the muffler

I went this route years ago

FYI - there is currently a used 430 muffler for sale on eBay

I received a muffler from Ebay. Went to install it tonight and it looks like someone may have cut some ears off the LH engine support bracket? I am not sure why this would be done at all? Does anyone have any photos of the mount/ muffler set up so I can be sure before I try and order a new bracket.

from what I hear (and as happened on my 2 430's) it is common for those ears to break off. in my case I was lucky in that the pieces stayed attached to the muffler so I could get them welded back on. unfortunately the motor mount is no longer available from JD parts, I tried, the only way to get a new one is to be lucky enough to find someone with an NOS part. sorry.

I bought a second hand rear engine case because where the rear muffler mount contacts the case, it had worn away due to being loose. But I'm thinking that the mounting design is no good so rather than replace the case, I'm thinking to redesign the mount so it's more rigidly mounted to the engine with less ability to "wobble". The engine moves a good bit when starting and when stopping, even with brand new engine mounts. An alternative is to mount the muffler to the frame and make use of a flexible coupling from the downpipe to the muffler, something stainless from a late model car

these shake so much on stopping which is why i didnt go with stock setup or try to use a flex coupling

the F935 mullfers dont break off but they need a hole in your side panel to work
