My 67 112 with an HH100 wouldn't start (actually never has since I bought it from PO.) I finally got around to taking the head off, it appears that the gasket was probably leaking.

The engine tin was intact, and once I got it off, I found two spacers, one of them is a 1/2", the other a 3/8" that had already moved from their positions. Any ideas which bolts would have used the spacers?

Also, reading the manuals, they're not real clear on the lengths of the bolts- one of the pages I visited mentions that the bolts for the #1 and #8 positions are 2" with all the others being 2 1/4" length. If that's the case, then the PO had the wrong size bolts (and no belville washers) in which I guess could have lead to the head leaking. Would I be ok to go with two 2" and the rest 2 1/4?

Howard ,next time you remove the head ,leave the bolts in the head ,then remove gasket ,then place the bolts in the gasket where they came from with spacers ,you can also number the bolt holes ,the way they are torqued ,hope this helps .David

Thanks David,

I measured the bolts that came out and got three different lengths--7 of them were 2 1/4" long- the other two were odd sized, less than 2". I went to the bolt place downtown today and got two, 2" bolts, so hopefully I'll get this thing back together to see if it'll come to life again.......
