Hello all! I've just purchased my first older John Deere garden tractor, and I'm in the process of getting it in good working order again. It's a 1969 112 with a serial number in the 150k range.

After a little troubleshooting, I have the engine running well, and the mower deck fixed up, now I'm just waiting on more belts from JD to see how she mows.

I still need to repair a leak in the gas tank, and determine if the transmission seals need to be replaced. The rear tires don't have a crazy amount of wobble, but the seals definitely leak. I figured I would change the gear oil and keep an eye on it. I checked the oil and it looked like there was water in it!

Right now, I'm not planning to restore it fully, I want to get it mechanically sound and work it for a while. Then I'll decide later what her fate is.

I attached a few pictures of the rainy night I brought her home and a few in progress pics.

Thank you everyone! And especially thank you to lt230s. I'm going to try putting a little brake fluid in the transmission to see if I can't get the seals to swell. If not, I'll be using that guide.

Welcome...I'm a couple of hours south across the Red in Lamar County, Tejas...just south of Hugo. Lot's more JD garden tractor stuff up your way...like Tulsa, OKC, etc. shows on CL a lot. Kinda thin pickins' down this way.

Thanks for the welcome all.

Tmac, it seems you're right.

I've gotta admit that I had never thought much about antique garden tractors, until I saw somebody post a round fender on social media. I was hooked instantly. I stayed up way too late scouring CL and found this mower that same night. It sat about an hour away from me, and I got it for $200. It seemed really lucky to me.

Granted, I haven't found any other tractors for sale that tickle my fancy since -- much to my wife's pleasure. And she's right. I don't need another... yet. If a nice 140 H3 would pop up real close, I could be convinced otherwise though.
