I have a seal leaking where the linkage connects to the input/control shaft on the transmission housing. Is it possible to change this seal in frame or do I need to pull the transmission and final drive?
Thanks, Don

I have the 50000+ serial number, it is a 1973 model 140H3. Hopefully in the photo you can see the seal area. I think I am going to have to pull the hydrostat assembly.

Opps..photo didn't show up. How do you attach a photo anyway?

If it is the shaft that goes in on either side,No you do not have to remove the hydro.I have done it in the machine. It takes patience and some creativity but it can be done.Like Robert said get the correct part number. The jd part number is AM3426T.If you look it up on jdparts it calls for a M86241 WHICH IS INCORRECT.Good luck.

Don,

To attach a photo it must be 640X480 with less that 100 K Bytes. You may need to use the photo resizer to convert the JPG file. You can download the resizer software by clicking the Blue PHOTO-RESIZER link on the Forum Welcome page.

Next you resize and save the file. Then click the Upload Attachment and browse to the file location. It takes a few minutes and then it will appear when you Preview/Post Message.

Does anyone have a late Briggs manual, or JD Service Manual that tells how to check the regulator on an L100 JD lawn tractor?
Briggs engine model 31F707-0129-E1 s/n 050315ZE.

I'm going to try the local library, but don't know if they have anything on this model engine.

The charging system seems to work, 14V at the battery when running. It runs the battery down in a day or two. I have kept an extra battery charged and swap in a fresh one each week so my neighbor can mow.

I get a reading of about 2V with the switch off, leads connected between the neg. cable and battery. Unplugging the red wire on the regulator, same test reads 0 voltage. I think a diode is bad in the regulator or possibly one hidden in the wiring. That's why I want to know if there is a test for the regulator.
Thanks in advance.
