Jacob those washers were an as required part. Some tractors had them and some did not. It depends on how much side to side movement your wheels have. On my 214 I just changed the front wheels and had to change the number and type of washers I used. Ended up with one new wave washer on one side and just an .80 machine bushing on the other. Roger

Matt there isn't a set number. My rule of thumb is to get them as tight as possible without causing the bearings to bind. They really do no turn very fast so a bit of looseness won't hurt anything. If they are tight enough to make the wheel not turn freely you are damaging the bearings. Roger

I bet Fastenal or McMaster Carr has something that would work. Probably cheaper than $9 too.

Mike since this started I found a couple of places that have them but most of them make the JD price reasonable. The cheapest I found was a English company that if you bought 10 of them they were about $6 each plus shipping from England. Apparently they are an expensive part. I didn't check McMaster Carr but will later today. Roger

I stopped in to Fastenal today to pick-up a few bolts, and checked on the spring (wavey) washers. $1.26 plus tax was their price out the door.
I know this is an old thread, so I hope I'm not breaking a cardinal rule with my first post. Oleboy, do you happen to know the specs or a part number for the Fastenal spring washer? The dealer price is crazy. Both of mine are missing from my 214 (same PN as the one discussed in this thread) or else I'd just take one in for comparison.

Thanks in advance!

Brossow you should know that not all tractors had a spring washer on them. They were used on a as needed basis. Your tractor may not have needed them or maybe they were lost. You never know. Roger
Thanks for the input, but I'm sure mine would have had them. There's a lot of slop in the wheels (back and forth on the spindle; it's not the bearings, which are brand new -- that's how I discovered the spring washers are missing). I suspect they were either lost by a previous owner or broke over the course of time and no one noticed. Regardless, even if they weren't included from the factory, I want them now to eliminate the slop. Just need to know the specs or PN for the Fastenal equivalent. :)
