Is it compatible?

Will this be able to replace the magnet to activate/deactivate the PTO clutch?

An electric PTO clutch/brake assembly as used on garden tractors is a specialized and fully integrated electro-mechanical assembly. Look through this attached generic document from Ogura to learn more...

If you have a PTO with a failed electromagnet coil/winding, you can rewind it yourself to save some money. There is a good thread on this in the FAQ of this site:

It has the magnet mounted behind and outside the pulleys.
Charles,

What tractor and year model are we discussing here? If you are unsure, post a picture and one of the PTO you are trying to repair/replace...

Yes, the magnet coil on a typical PTO assembly is separate from and slightly behind the rotating pulley portion -- here is an exploded view of a PTO from an open frame tractor like the 318, for instance...

Thanks for the tractor model and year information -- that helps quite a bit. I saw the 112 in your avatar listing, but thought it might be an earlier one with the manual PTO. The electric clutch on the later 112 replaced the manual PTO engagement used on the pre 1972 model years. I don't know anything specific about how to repair or replace this assembly. Is the coil on the one you have now open or shorted?

Maybe another member here that owns a later model SF can chime in... There are threads in the gear drive section of this forum like this one:

That is the PTO brake, not the PTO. I have 2 1973 112’s which use the same electric PTO. I have an extra PTO , but not to interested in parting with it at this time. They are out there, may take some time to find one tho. Good luck!

None of the 72's and a 74 112's that I have the pto brake. JD has clip that pop rivets to that arm to make sure the pto doesn't spin a tear out the wires M46937

I’m a little confused at what you are looking for. First, does the PTO engage and disengage with the switch? The magnet that you show the eBay listing is just the PTO brake. As Ed stated that is not a necessary component to run tiller or mower deck. Its purpose is to stop the rotation of the PTO when the switch to the PTO is turned off. It is a separate device from the PTO although it works in conjunction with it. Neither of my 2 112’s has a functioning PTO brake and hasn’t for as long as I’ve owned them 30+ years.

The wires got pulled out of the magnet by the previous owner, an those are the only wires coming from the switch.
Do your pots look like this with a wire coming out the front, because mine Dosent have any?
Some guys have dug very carefully and found the torn off wires and soldered onto them and made the pto magnet work. I installed the clip M46937 to make sure the arm never comes off and lets the pto spin and tear the wires off. Guys said in the past the pto were around $1200 for 72-74 Jd's. A pto and the brackets for 200 series would work on a 110-112.
Never mind, I found two wires cut off right at the level of the pulleys.

How can I get theses wires out to fix them?
