Hi All,

Just found this website and so far its been very informative. I've searched a bit and cant find an answer to a problem I've been having so here goes.

I have a 1970 JD 120 which I've owned since 2000. forgive me if my terminology is a bit off. My presenting problem is that I am continually breaking the steel spring pin that connects the pin shaft to the coupler on the rear drive side of the shaft. I have replaced the pin shaft after the hole became elongated and it happened again to the point that it ruined another shaft.

I welcome suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Ernest,
Welcome to the group. Not very familiar with the 120 but here are a few questions to get started.
Is the shaft hole elongated so that the pin is loose in it when installed? Does the hydro work correctly when operating. Are you threading a safety wire thru the pin to hold it in place?

With the torque applied to the shaft while running, it would be easy to understand how the pins could shear over time if there is any play in either hole. And the wire is needed to help hold the pin there and centered.

You may want to remove the rear end and drill a new hole for the pin if that hole is out of round before putting in a new shaft again.

Ernest,
Welcome to WFM.
It sounds like the hole in the shaft or the hub might be worn. If that's the issue, Deere has a kit for the shaft that consists of a new hub with 2 set screws to replace the hub that uses a roll pin. It's a little pricey, but it works well. Check with your local dealer. Good luck
