Ok fellas I just fired up my newest purchase the 140H3 for the first time in over 2 years. One of these days I'll get some pictures of it posted on here so you can see what you've been helping me with. Anyway after checking all the vitals and blowing out the carb with carb cleaner it started right up with no hesitation. Blew out some white smoke initially but after tweaking the carb the smoke stopped so at this point it seems the engine is OK but I'm not celebrating yet. After warming the engine up for about an hour I tried putting it into gear. I don't have the manual yet so all I know is what I see. There are instructions on the plate in front of the seat but this is what happens. I put my left foot on the clutch which then begins to make a noise, then I put it in a forward or reverse gear, then let the clutch out. Nothing happens. I looked underneath and the drive shaft is turning all the way back to the trans. I noticed that the brake pedal closest to the side of the machine has a micro switch that is activated by it. Does the brake have to be engaged in order to put the tractor in gear ? The micro switch appears to be misaligned and I suspect could be the problem. If anyone knows how this is supposed to be I would love to hear it.

Bob, there is a valve handle at the front of the seat. Turn it counter clockwise till it's loose and see what happens. When that valve is screwed all the way clockwise, it allows you to push the tractor around and causes the situation you are describing.

Mark,

Your absolutely right ! of course now I remember the guy I bought it from telling me that very thing when I was picking it up and loading it onto the trailer but that was almost a month ago and obviously I forgot that little detail. Thanks for the reminder !
