Thanks for the reply Cliff. Are the mounting holes the same on the 316 screen? As long as I can use the screen without any major mods, that would suit me. Thanks again.
Mounting holes are the same. There's just a small circular area that has no holes and dips down slightly. It's there because of the steering box on a 316, which doesn't have power steering. There is about 10% less perforated area.
I posted this on the other site to your thread there so brought it over here for completeness. Thanks cliff for your insights on the steering bulge -- and I bet the variation in perforated area is in the front and due to the oil cooler on the 318...
It has been years since I have had a 316 Onan tractor in my herd and nearly as long since I had a 318 as well as lately I have been loyal to my 322 tractors. However, the belly screens are not very different as I recall for the 316 and the 318 -- they certainly look the same in the parts catalog illustrations. The 316 has a part number of M86476 and the 318 is M84964. The screen for the 322 and 332 will be different as those tractors have radiators.
Perhaps there is some difference between the 316 and 318 units as the 316 has no oil cooler and the 318 does have the cooler -- this may only impact where the perforations are at the front of the screen and not the overall dimensions, but I am not sure.
Chad, I think the 316 belly screen will fit a 318. I believe the only difference is, the 316 screen has a dished "bowl" stamped into it for the steering gear clearance. The 318 has no steering gear. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
