I just put a new carb on my 318. And happy with the idling now and no surging so that's a win! But when i throttle up the tractor hardly revs up and at full throttle it dies. Possibly I have throttle linkage spring in wrong hole? I didnt adjust carb at all when i replaced it went from the box onto the intake and it started much easier and idles very nice so i figured all good? What adjustment should I have done on the carb before and after install? Ideas? Thanks!

Try going here and looking at the service manual adjustment for carb settings. http://www.wfmfiles.com/download/manuals/316_318_420_LG_Technical_Manual(TM1590_17May95).pdf on around page 279 you'll see governor hole settings, etc.. That should point you in right direction. Sounds like it could be too lean on the top end. Should be a high speed adjustment but I don't have a 318 to compare with at the moment.

I have the best luck mounting a new carb, then making the high-speed and low-speed circuit/needle settings according to the baseline recommended by the owners or service manual...then starting the engine, letting it warm up and fine-tuning both a little...if needed.
