I lapped the intake and exhaust valves and set them to spec. I did not replace the intake gaskets, just put a thin layer of blue permatex on both sides. Is this sufficient? Do I need to purchase new gaskets? I plan on buying new head gaskets, but don't know if its necessary. I believe that it is. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I always replace them but the intake you can get away with it.

Head Gaskets IMO need to be replaced everytime unless its one of those old engines that use a shim type of gasket.

Oh boy! I'll check. I bet it's not fuel resistan. I did only use a very thin layer though. Not to change topics, but I need to replace the insulation between the motor and firewall. I work with all kinds of high temp materials. This is what our company primarily does. I can make whatever is needed for this application but I need to know what the foam is for. Is there an issue with using hick fiberglass sandwiched between two layers of aluminum Mylar? Thanks guys.

That insulation should be fine. Its biggest job is as an airflow gap, so engine heat stays forward, and intake air comes from underneath. The original insulation was open cell foam, with a single Mylar film.

Lee, My John Deere dealer parts guy showed me RECENTLY that the replacement firewall insulation is still available direct from deere. Cost at my local dealer with 7% sales tax included is right at $76.00.
That makes my improved kit of the improved PSA type mylar faced insulation I sell for $36 including info and shipping seem pretty reasonable priced doesn't it?
