Got a JD317 with a 46" deck, I think. Not sure where to measure it to figure out exactly which deck I've got...46 or 48. No tags, stickers, stamps, or anything useful. And I don't know the physical difference between the two (eg. 2 wheels vs 4 wheel, different draft arms, etc).

I know I saw drawings awhile back for a beef-up plate that would bolt up on the underside of the deck for the spindles. Whether or not they were for the 46/48 inch deck, I don't know.
My decks has cracks around all 3 spindles and most of the bolt holes. Cracks are bad enough that the center spindle is tilted forward, causes the leading edge of the blade to cut a bit deeper than the rest.
If the beef-up plate drawings aren't around, or not sold, should be a piece of cake to build up a few. I've got a spare deck that's stripped down and can use that and a Sharpie with a piece of flat stock on the back side to draw it out easily enough. Tack weld it to the deck, fit a washer or two on the front two holes of that center spindle, that should level out the blade good enough. Done and done, good to go.

Anybody seen those drawings lately?

Jeremy-
Those are called reinforcement rings. They are actually for compact tractor decks but fit the smaller decks perfectly. They are part # M153372.

I just got an email from a guy with the drawings for them...and seeing his nice pretty painted yellow deck makes me want to go out and get mine refurbished.
Looks like those parts are about ~$15 +S/H online in various places. Maybe $50 is worth it vs. making my own.
I've got 2 decks, but only enough parts (pulleys, spindles, etc.) to make one deck operational.
I gotta do some surfing and see if I can come up with a complete parts list that doesn't break the bank and get my other one fixed up.

Cut up a reinforcement ring for the center spindle and welded it in yesterday. Should have taken some pictures...
Leveled the center blade by adding 2 washers under each of the front 2 bolt holes of the center spindle.
Close enough for me.
Got a new secondary belt for the deck.
Cuts good, likely not 100% perfectly level, but good enough for me.
Doesn't seem to be 'throwing' grass as far as I think it should. Belt is on the larger pulley of the PTO drive, haven't messed with anything under the deck.
Probably due to take the blades to the grinding wheel and see what happens.

And what's the deal with this deck not cutting in sharp corners? Am I expecting too much from the under-deck aerodynamics? Or just moving too fast...
