hello all i have a older jd 420 hydro i am having problems with steering you turn the steering wheel two to three times befor any thing moves and then it turns the wheel can any one tell me what to look for please?

Just to check the obvious first-is there enough oil in the system? If that is good then it might be a bad steering valve (can be rebuilt).

Check the hydrostatic transaxle fluid level first thing . There's a little tube sight glass on the right side rear of transaxle , looking at it from the rear . Level should be in the middle of the sight-glass between the metal clips' upper and lower tube holders .
