i re powered my 300 with a vanguard 18hp but i am having pto issues it burned the original up may have not set up air gap right. bought new clutch and set air gap correct. pto runs for about 30 seconds before it stops and stalls the tractor . any ideas ? thanks Dale

I had the same problem when I replaced the 341 with a 21 hp Vanguard. You need to use a spacer to mimic the step on the kohler shaft. I used a thick washer.

I had THE SAME PROBLEM with my jd420 re-powered with a kohler Command Pro CH740. I burnt up my clutch almost immediately. I just left the clutch off since I do not use the front PTO at all on that tractor. I did not use a kit for the re-power and the outfits that sell the new engines with kits would not sell t=me the proper washer. Tried to make my own washer but not successfully!

you wouldn't happen to know how thick of a washer you used would you. i took it apart to day looks melted some of the protective cover is there some thing i could recover it with

I took some PTOs to a motor rewinding company in Waterloo, Iowa and had the rewound with new covering.

Dale, when you slide the rotor onto the crankshaft, there is supposed to be about .100" clearance between the rotor and the stationary coil behind it. If you have just the rotor on without the key, it should spin freely without touching any part of the coil, including the outside edge.

hey Cliff good to know there is some local near by for some advise. I am trying to get it up and running for winter... have some bushings of various thicknesses to try.. going to try and find some where to rewind the pto' i have now. if you have any suggestions as to where thanks Dale
