Yes you can separate-if you know how to do body work. Otherwise-I wouldn't do it. There has been a few that were broken but it basically is glued on. There is a few body repair people on here that have done a GREAT job repairing fiberglass hoods.

I've separated a couple hoods from the nose piece without destroying either one. I used a heat gun and putty knife. With the hood upside-down heat one side at a time while working the putty knife down the seam. Once the adhesive gets hot enough it will start to let go. Once the sides are done flip it over and work the top apart. Take your time work slowly but don't over temp the fiberglass. If it starts turning brown your using too much heat. I bonded the hoods back together with Hysol EA 9359.3 epoxy. Check aircraft supply sites on the net for this epoxy. It's even John Deere green.

There are many hoods that fit a 318 from many different models, might be able to find a better used one then mess with yours.
