John Deere 318 P218 starter shim question

Jay, If I remember correctly you drill the outer bolt hole in the starter 1/64" oversize and pivot the starter away from the flywheel, then tighten bolts. The other way if there is too much clearance between the starter and flywheel.

I think what Michael wrote applies to the B43 starters. I haven't heard of using shims on the P218 starters.
