Okay. Don't mind the time at all. It's my hobby so in no rush. That's a lot of money. I know I can get it done cheaper around here. Have a good engine builder here for fair prices. That's one expensive piston. Thanks guys. Not familiar with the 400's yet but want to find one.

The ring gear is a replaceable part on the K532, but JD not listing it is no surprise, as they sold a flywheel to my late Father for an Onan P218, to the tune of $500, when his ring gear went bad, I went the local Onan dealer bought a $70 ring gear and starter drive, and returned the Flywheel and showed them the replaceable ring gear, which they said was not a good practise, they always replace the whole flywheel, At $500 so would I, if someone will pay it, easy money! there are K532 flywheels on Ebay.

Kalin,
If the engine internals are in good shape, replacing the flywheel would not involve a "rebuild". With the engine out of the tractor, removing mostly sheet metal would get you to the flywheel. However, a broken ring gear is not common for the K532, and there may be more to the story. If the beefy starter does not have a support bracket on the rear, it tends to crack the starter mounting on the aluminum oil pan. Maybe a cracked mounting resulted in starter mis-alignment and the damaged ring gear--something to check-out.

Okay. Well if it's the fly wheel that needs replace and maybe starter. That shouldn't be to tough. The add says this.......

"Needs engine rebuild, has 3 pt hitch, and new tires on it. Engine was o.k. except the starter ring broke."

Not sure if he means need rebuilt and starter ring broke or if it ran and then the starter ring broke and that's what's wrong with it. He wants 700 and it's not clean but straight. I was thinking if it was expensive to fix. 500? Like I said I don't know much on these. Why I'm asking. Keep my eye open for a 400. Has a 3pt so that should be decent money. Thanks guys.

hi KALIN, that is a confusing add. but for the money if its not a pure DOG, it also might make you a good parts tractor for a build on another. I sure whish I could find a 400 locally in that price range for that very purpose.
believe me, JD, E-bay, FED-X and all the rest will eat you alive doing a 400 resto. my 400 is mostly done except for paint and my never ending experimentation for improvements.
also once you have completed a 400 resto, you will likely be like me and want another for future parts back-up. it never ends, ha. J.Z.M.
