Hello all I picked up a 430 a couple months ago. I have decided that I need to sell the tractor because it is just to big for my yard. Before I sell it I want to make sure it is good to go. I have been fixing a few issues with it and now the last thing I need to do is adjust the hood. Apparently the guy I got it from must of taken the hood off for some reason. I have tried everything to get it to sit right with no luck. Right now the hood sits off to the right if you are sitting on the tractor. It also rubs on the front grille when you open it, and it has rubbed some of the hood right around the side cover by the alternator. At first I thought that the two brackets that mount to the hood support were on backwards but moving them doesn't seem to help. I also adjusted the four points under the hood in different positions but it didn't change much. I also adjusted the hood support thinking it was sitting to low or to far back, but no luck. I know these hood adjustments can be tricky, but I was able to adjust the hood on my 322 with little problems. I think it was easier because the two mounts that bolt to the hood support is a fixed hinge, were the 430 is not. I think I just need to find the right combination of adjustments to get the hood to sit right. So if anyone out there has advice or pictures they could send me of the two hinge points on the hood support and of the four points under the hood. I think if I had pictures of that I think it will get me in the right direction. Thank you in advance Matt

I have done the hood on my 332 and my fathers 430. Remove the side sheilds and the front grill and have the bolts/nuts loose for the hood on both the support and the hood. Once it sits in place on the tractor where you want it reach in with a wrench and tighten up. Then test opening and closing slowly so you don't rip a hood mount off (430 hoods aren't easy to find). If it opens ok try the grill and side shields to make sure they are OK as well. If not-remove them and adjust accordingly and repeat the steps till it does work. Took me a few times but it works good now. Watch for the headlight wires as well so they don't get pinched.

Here are a few pics of my 430 and the setup on the hood hinges. There is some adjustment on the hinges that are attached to the hood. The openings are slotted. Hinges on the tractor can only be placed one way. One for the left and one for the right. I do not know if there is adjustment on the mounting bolts, attaching the lower hinges.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the help I will keep trying to adjust the hood. I am sure I will get it one of these time. Bob do you have a picture of the right side hinge that mount to the support? I think mine were opposite the left hinge was mounted like in your picture with the lip facing the outside. The right hinge was mounted with the lip on the inside. That is why I'm curious to see how your right hinge is mounted. Thank you Matt
