Hello,

I recently was given a 430 by an old farmer friend that no longer uses it after switching to a 0 turn. It has 1300 hours and is in very good condition. I've never been a fan of idiot lights, and wanted to install mechanical oil pressure and water temp gauges. I figured I'd T off of the oil pressure sender to the gauge I plan on installing, but when looking at it there is a brass plug (fitting?) with a cap on it next to the oil sender. What is this? It threads right into the block. I have scoured the internet for several hours and have come up with nothing. I have attached a picture of the unidentified part. You can see the sender with the wire coming out next to it.

This is my first post and my first diesel john deere. I love it, it came with a 4 way plow and a dump cart, and has the 60 inch deck.

Thank you so much Chuck! I've saved the PDF to my computer for future reference. I will post pics of the mower and attachments tomorrow. The sun has gone down here as of now so pictures would be difficult. The grille is a little dinged up but other than that everything seems to be remarkably well kept. I have been meaning to clean the dust off the engine for just the reason you specified. I've only had it for a couple weeks. I did notice there seems to be a bit of a wet spot next to the oil sender, you can see it in the picture. I guess that would be where the crank meets the flywheel housing, since the engine is 'backwards' in the 430. I'll stop and get some engine degreaser on the way home tomorrow.

That looks like a factory engine heater there above the drain fitting. I didn't know they were a freeze plug style design. I have an aftermarket one on my 332, it goes in the same spot, but bolts in place with a flange.

If you're talking about the 2 wires above the sending unit wire those are for the PTO I think. They go towards the front of the engine and down around the engine mount. Here's a better view.
