I have the tech manual and its no help at all. My question is I have a PTO with seals and it i
Cleaned the old greases out with brake clean and repacked the bearings.
Worked great for 15 minutes and the bottom bearing cooked the old grease out of it.
Now I know by the tech manual you press it apart for rebuilding it but what do you do just to regrease it.?
It looks to me you could use an inside c clip remover to remove the c clip to get it apart.
Has anyone done this.? I don't have access to a press.

Walter when I worked at a dealer for a regrease we didn't clean the old grease out as that was done for a rebuild. Took it apart so you could see the bearing. Then hand applied grease squeezing it into the bearings with your fingers. If the old grease was hard and not good then your option is to go through the rebuild process taking everything apart by the manual. Welcome to WFM. Roger

Thanks, Roger.
The bearings I'm having trouble with is the PTO pivot bearings.
By what I've read you normally would press it apart then remove the c ring to get to these beangs.
You can see the c ring lokking straight down thru the PTO.
It looks like you can remove this c ring without pressing it
apart.
The tool to do this is $60 so I want to make sure before I buy it.

Walter from memory you can get the C ring out with a couple of small straight blade screwdrivers. You use one screwdriver by twisting the end of the C so it pulls away from the housing and then putting a small screwdriver between the housing and the C ring and prying towards the center and upwards. At least that is the way I have always done it. It is time consuming and frustrating but I have always been able to get it to work. When I did these I replaced the C with a normal snap ring of the correct size so it is easier the next time. Roger

The JD 60/70/100 clutch cone has two bearings in it, a roller bearing and a ball bearing. The roller bearing rides on the center race and can be cleaned/repacked. The ball bearing which supports the clutch pivot is a sealed type (JD9296) and should be replaced if damaged. Roger is correct in that you should be able to remove the large original style snap ring using two small flat bladed screwdrivers but I would also suggest that you wear a pair of safety goggles while removing it as they can fly off with quite some force. After removing the large snap ring you should be able to drive out the bearing (with attached clutch pivot) by striking it with a large wooden dowel from the inside. Then remove the smaller snap ring to remove the clutch pivot from the bearing. Reassemble in reverse.

Thanks, guys. Good to know its a sealed bearing ,so I will put a new one in, and hopefully be good to go.
I guess I need to start saving for a cheap hydraulic press because I have 3 other PTOs that need complete rebuilds.
