Hello I just joined and I’d like some insight on valve timing with my K241. It looks like the cam gear with the fly weights are making the exhaust valve open during incorrect stroke briefly. Looks like the balance weights are interfering with exhaust valve timing.

Can the fly weights be replaced or do I need a whole new gear? The weight tang contacts the lifter causing the exhaust valve to open slightly. Looks like a new wear pattern on a very old motor.

Any knowledge on this would be appreciated

That is perfectly normal and is the compression release used in helping the engine to start. After the engine starts the flyweights cause it to stop happening. Roger

Thanks Roger!

I was hopping it was something like that. It does start pretty easy for a one lung
