Pulled the Kohler for my 316 as it was running rough. Honed, ringed, valve grind and new bearing in the balancing gears. Timed per shop manual, now it runs rougher than ever,hops like crazy (new mounts), backfires like a truck when shut down. I suspect the balancing gears.
Thoughts???

Most people use the balance gears for paper weights.......like me. There nick name is " Grenade Gears "

Took them out of my 14. It runs nice.
I bet David is sending you a picture of how to remove them with a chisel. Thats what I did....ha

After I took the snap rings off , one gear would come out . The other needed to be changed in design.
