I see 2 or 3 different length filters that are supposed to fit my 20hp Kohler command engine. I have plenty of clearance. can I assume the tallest is the best?

Based on my research on Kohler filters for the Onan engines, I'd say that the "Tall Kohler" filter (Deere AM101207) is preferable to the "Short Kohler" (Deere AM125454).

The tall filter is 3.5 inches tall, so you'll need about 4 inches above the filter flange to install it.
