Trying to wrap up my "quick" tune up on my 317 and I keep running into more questions. A little background - I purchased this 317 with two blown motors, a series one and a series 2 that had been rebuilt. I used the springs from the series 2. Now I am adjusting the valves and looking at the springs again I am not sure which ones are correct. The ones in the engine (from the series 2) are not preogressively wound but measure around 1.68" which matches the kohler book and the 317 manual.
But the series 1 had progressively wound springs that measure around 1.88"
So, are the longer springs correct or are they out of a different engine? Are the springs that I am using (correct length, but not progressively wound) correct?
