I have a 314 here with a VERY tired K 321 on it; runs but would make a great mosquito fogger; oil out the breather tube and all! I would love to rebuild it; the RIGHT way with NOS Kohler parts as needed, bore the block if need be everything. but I see a need to just "get it running"; and a rebuild with Chinese or Taiwan parts is out of the question; not worth going thru all that work for nothing you know!
I have seen a few good used running engines for sale recently in various places; what would you pay for a running, non knocking, non smoking K 321?

Don,

A good, used 321 should be in the ballpark, price-wise, of rebuilding the old one. If it were me, I'd suck it up and rebuild the old one- spend the money once and be done with it.

As a side note, and food for thought- where do you think the OEM Kohler parts are coming from these days? I'll give you a hint- most are NOT made in the US...

when I redid my M8, I bought all I could from Ebay NOS; new OLD stock; I would do this engine the same way. The rod the gov gear the gasket set and a few other odds and ends came from the local shop (which has since folded sadly, they had been in business for YEARS) those boxes had enough dust on them to convince me that they were made here.

thats why I mess with old tractors to begin with; the new ones are not worth a **** and you are way better to re do an older one even if you wind up with almost what a "Home Depot special" would cost the old one rebuilt will STILL be going when that big box POS is in the scrap heap!

I wonder how much different a Magnum M 14 would be vs the K 321 other than a lack of points?
I have both a K 181 here and that M8 and alot of parts still swap between them. The M8 is a "bulkier" package than the 181, with how the gas tank mounts, the pplastic carb/air cleaner cover and such.
