I need to replace or repair my LX 255 John Deere riding mower's engine. CV15S Kohler 15 hp, vertical shaft, electric start. Can I replace with another engine, if so what do you recommend? Can I rebuild this engine, it is not seized, but has very low compression after being ran with low oil. I haven't taken it apart to see the actual damage. Any help would be great for a guy on a tight budget. Thanks!

Ron the LX255 is considered a late model and you will more and better answers in that Late Model Forum under this one. The only place I know that might make engine swaps for your tractor is http://smallenginewarehouse.com/. I have boughten engines from them in past and have had good service. I am not sure if they make a kit for you tractor or not. Welcome to WFM. Roger

I checked the SEW site and they have a kit to put a 17 HP in you tractor but the cost will be more than $900 by the time it is shipped. Roger
