Wondering if anyone has found a source for the input shaft (M42510) on model 49 snow thrower gearbox. Part is NLA from Deere. Likewise any alternative sources for the V-Belt Pulley AM103464. Pulley is available from Deere but they want $82 for a pulley with welded on hub. The keyway on the input shaft is distorted at the outside end which might still be useable but the keyway on the perfectly fine pulley is messed up bad. Alternatively is anyone aware of a source for a new hub which could be welded onto the pulley after the old hub has been removed?

Any idea what a reasonable cost to machine new keyways in the shaft and pulley should run?

Is the original shaft hardened after they cut the keyway groove? The reason I ask is, I purchased an old farm windmill for parts that knowingly had bad bearings/shafts. The previous owner had tried to save some money and instead of purchasing the proper replacement bearings which had a notch that is cut and then hardened at the factory, he purchased bearings without a notch and then cut his own notch. The notch distorted quickly and wiped out shafts and bearings.

I really doubt that shaft is hardened, but you can take a file and run it across a section and see if it digs in or just slides over it. As for the price, I would thing you would be charged their minimum which is probably 1 hour. No parts involved, only labor.

I used a file to add a very small radius in the grooves for the C clips to protect the oil seal lip.
For mine, I don't know if it's the original but the shaft is not hardened.
I think usually for this kind of application the shafts are not hardened but the bearings are always hardened.

Back to square one.

Cutting new keyways at a 180 degree offset was a spot on fix. Unfortunately, two machining errors were made and these parts are not going to work. I can buy the pulley but not the shaft from Deere.

Has anyone had a new input shaft (M42510) for the gearbox on a Model 49 snow thrower or Model 33 Tiller made up that could recommend a good source?

Has anyone had any experience with machined parts from Ebay seller sel234? He has a shaft listed that is a new machined part but at this point I could not find any feedback for any of shaft sales.

Does anyone here have the exact dimensions or drawings for both shafts so a person could have them made or make them?
